Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a meeting on the further development of mechanical engineering, according to the official  website of the  Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Vice-Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Marat Karabaev, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Legal Entities "Union of Machine Builders of Kazakhstan" Meiram Pshembaev, General Director of Kazenergokabel JSC Vladimir Bobrov and President of Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty JSC Marat Tleubaev made presentations.

About 3 thousand enterprises operate in the field of mechanical engineering, 115 thousand people are employed. In the total volume of production of the manufacturing industry (16.8 trillion tenge), mechanical engineering occupies 14 percent.

One of the largest sectors of the industry is the automotive industry - 33.1 percent. In the coming years, it is planned to expand the range of cars assembled in the country, as well as to launch the production of auto components (bumpers, seats, car windows, plastic parts, tires, and so on).

During the meeting, problematic issues of the industry were also voiced. So, today in Kazakhstan there are no accredited laboratories in the fields of railway and electrical engineering, it is required to develop a national standard for cable and wire products.

In addition, in the production of agricultural machinery, it is necessary to establish cooperation between enterprises to create a complete production chain, and in the procurement of subsoil users, measures should be taken to increase domestic value.

At the same time, it was noted that the industry as a whole has a significant growth potential due to import substitution, in connection with which, more than 20 projects are planned to be implemented within the framework of the relevant program.

As additional measures for the development of mechanical engineering, it is planned to carry out work to create basic industries (reducing steel imports) and provide existing enterprises with raw materials. There are also plans to expand funding for the Industrial Development Fund.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan instructed to work out all the voiced proposals in order to develop the necessary decisions on each issue in a short time.

"Engineering is a dynamically developing sector of the economy. The potential is huge both in terms of import substitution and in terms of exports, especially to regional markets. In this regard, we must support the dynamic development of this industry and implement the necessary support measures," said Alikhan Smailov.
