ASTANA. KAZINFORM - June 12 has been declared a Day of Mourning for those killed in a fire in the Abay region, Kazinform reports.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed condolences to the families and friends of forestry workers who died as a result of a large-scale fire in the Semey Ormany natural reserve.
“I came specifically to express my condolences to you. This is a great tragedy for all our people. Be strong in this difficult moment. I share your grief of loss. I have instructed the Government to provide you with all possible support, be it financial or any other assistance. If there are appeals to the Government and to me personally, speak up, express your requests and appeals. Naturally, we will satisfy all of them. Of course, unfortunately, the dead cannot be brought back, but life goes on. But one thing I want to say for sure is that those who are to blame for this tragedy will be held accountable in accordance with the law. I declare this Monday a day of national mourning. We will mourn with you and remember the names of the victims. I ask you to be strong and remain calm. Appropriate measures will be taken in all areas, be it law enforcement agencies or ministries. Now I will hold a meeting, and we will certainly learn from this experience,” the Head of State said.
Let us remind you that on the territory of the Batpaevsky forestry there was a fire of trees on a preliminary area of 0.3 hectares. A helicopter was brought in to extinguish the fire. In addition, rescuers from three regions were sent to help extinguish the forest fire. The preliminary area of the fire is already more than 60,000 hectares.
14 foresters died in a fire in the Abay region. 316 people were evacuated due to a fire in the region. The government and akimat of the Abay region were instructed to provide all necessary assistance to the families of the victims.
Nine points in Semey have been prepared for residents evacuated due to the fire.
Also, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev postponed to a later date his official visit to Vietnam, which was scheduled for June 11-13.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the Government to use all available technical and human resources to combat fires in the Abay region, prevent the spread of the disaster and ensure the safety of citizens and their property. Measures to eliminate the fire in the Abay region were discussed in the Government.

“The main thing for today is to prevent loss of life, localize the fire, and prevent the fire from spreading to populated areas. The necessary conditions should be created for the accommodation and residence of people evacuated from dangerous areas. After neutralizing the threat, it is necessary to quickly assess the extent of the damage,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
All victims, as the President noted, will be provided with all possible assistance.
“I just met with the relatives of the victims and promised to support them. It is imperative to keep this promise. Instructed to provide compensation to the families of the dead and injured. There should be no delays in this matter,” the Head of State said.
On June 8, a fire started in Semey Ormany. From the first moment of the emergency, firefighters and rescuers began work and strictly fulfill their duties. Due to the scale of the large-scale fire in the city of Semey, a state of emergency has been declared. Experts are still fighting a silent enemy.
The area of the fire was initially about 20 hectares, then the flames flared up again.
Residents were promptly evacuated due to the threat of forest fires in the villages of Uspenskoye, Podnebesnoye, and Baryshevka. A total of 316 people were evacuated.
Experts also said that extinguishing the fire is complicated by wind and heat.
